Believe it or not, New Orleans is not just about the hundreds of bars and clubs that line Bourbon Street. New Orleans is actually pretty family friendly, and entertaining a toddler in New Orleans is easier than you think. New Orleans is an extremely walkable city, with easy access to sidewalks to push your stroller, or access to city parks if you’re looking to avoid the sometimes congested streets of the French Quarter.
Thinking of taking a trip to New Orleans with your toddler? Have a look at some of these toddler-approved activities:
Jackson Square

Jackson Square is a great place to people watch and listen to amazing brass bands play music while your toddler dances away in the streets. I can attest that this was one of the best experiences for our family. Take a stroll through the square and take in all that New Orleans has to offer from one square block: music, art, architecture, locals, and food. Don’t forget to score some amazing beignets from Cafe du Monde while you people watch!
Audubon Aquarium of the Americas

The Audubon Aquarium of the Americas is one of the best aquariums in the United States. From sharks and alligators, to more playful friends like sea otters and penguins, everyone will enjoy the Audubon Aquarium of the Americas. There’s also an IMAX theater to take advantage of, but may be more appropriate for those a bit older than toddlers since they may not be able to sit through an entire presentation or movie.
Audubon Zoo

The Audubon Zoo in New Orleans is a great place for you and your toddler to stroll on a beautiful day. There’s plenty of resident animals and wonderfully designed habitats to keep everyone entertained for a few hours. During summer months, there’s also a small water park with designated play areas for toddlers and smaller kids!
Louisiana Children’s Museum

Looking for a break from those hot New Orleans summer months? Have a visit at the air conditioned Louisiana Children’s Museum which offers interactive exhibits for children of all ages.
Note that the Louisiana Children’s Museum is a member of the Association of Children’s Museums and accepts reciprocal membership benefits from other museums across the country. If you’re a member of your local children’s museum, you might be entitled to free entry; you can call ahead to double-check.
New Orleans Streetcars

Hoping on a New Orleans streetcar is one of the cheapest activities you can plan with your family and toddler. Rides are less than $2 each way, and routes allow for multiple destinations across the city.
Bourbon Street

While you won’t be able to partake in the revelry often found inside most of the establishments on Bourbon Street with your toddler or little one, there’s nothing wrong with strolling along Bourbon Street and taking in all the sites and sounds.
